Right now, nations are putting together economic stimulus and infrastructure packages that will shape the physical infrastructure and our economic potential for years to come. Promoting and enabling car independence by providing high-quality and low-cost public transit and walk/bike facilities expands access to jobs and opportunity for those who can't afford cars, primarily Black and people of color. Investing heavily in the promotion of electric cars doubles down on a transportation mode that comes with a myriad of well-known problems. How can we spend economic stimulus money in ways that support our climate, access and equity goals?
